The iOS "Remove Location" feature — what it does and doesn't do
iOS has a built-in option to remove location before sharing:
1. Open a photo in the Photos app
2. Tap the Share button
3. Tap "Options" at the top
4. Toggle off "Location"
5. Share normally
What this removes: GPS coordinates and location name.
What it does NOT remove: iPhone model, iOS version, camera settings, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, timestamp, and all other EXIF fields.
If your goal is to hide which iPhone you own, when you took the photo, or your shooting settings, the iOS option isn't enough.

HEIC vs JPEG — does it matter for metadata removal?
The metadata content is essentially the same in both formats. The difference is compatibility:
